Container Measurement
Container measurements, both inside and outside, vary slightly depending on the shipping line and the age of the containers. Keeping this in mind, a table with approximate measurements can be downloaded below.
What is VGM (Verify Good Mass)?
It is the gross weight of the cargo, including the weight of the material, packaging and tare weight of the container. The shipper of the container is obliged to provide the VGM of the entire container, with a deadline prior to shipment. There are two ways to obtain it*:
- Weigh the container after completion of filling and sealing.
- Weigh all the goods, including the weight of pallets, packaging and stowage material, before filling the container, and then add the tare weight of the container to the total goods.
* The weight must always be measured with an approved and certified weighing tool.
